Thorsten Giehler

Mr. Thorsten Giehler is head of the Department Economy, Employment and Social Development of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Co-Chairman of the Sino-German Center at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. From 2018 to 2024 he has been Regional Director East Asia of GIZ based in Beijing, China. From 2013 to 2017, he has been head of the GIZ Corporate Strategy and Policy Division in GIZ Headquarters in Eschborn. From 2006 to 2013, he has worked in Beijing as Director of the Sino – German Financial Sector Reform Programme of GIZ. Thorsten Giehler is born nearby Düsseldorf and agricultural & development economist by training. After his university studies in Bonn and Venezuela he joined the German Development Institute in Berlin and from 1997 to 2000 he was Rural Finance Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy.
