Simone Barbosa

Simone was born in South Bavaria. She studied Economics in New Orleans and Munich and earned a PhD in Economics from Münster, focusing on the competitiveness of the automotive sector from a competition policy perspective. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a professional tennis player for two years. Since 2006, Simone has been with BayernLB, holding various project and leadership roles across Controlling, Group-wide Planning, IT and Non-Financial Risk Management, Organization and Process Management, as well as Process Improvement, Digitalization, and Innovation. Since January 2025, she coleads BayernLB’s cross-functional AI Competence Center. In this role, she is responsible for advancing the AI vision, roadmap and functional direction, scaling horizontal and vertical (agentic) AI use cases across the bank, and developing the AI platform, governance and use-case funnel.
