André Wiersig

André Wiersig is an extreme open-water swimmer and an internationally recognized ocean ambassador. He is the first person from the German-speaking world and the 16th worldwide to complete the Oceans Seven – the seven most challenging ocean straits on Earth – all on his first attempt. He is also the only person to have successfully swum the approximately 50-kilometer route from the German mainland to the offshore island of Helgoland across the North Sea.

Through projects such as “Swim for the Ocean – Seychelles,” André Wiersig uses his expeditions not as acts of athletic self-promotion, but as invitations to shift perspective and take greater responsibility for the ocean. This approach is embodied in the non-profit initiative theBlueHeart, which stands for tangible ocean conservation, education, and a deeper emotional connection to the sea.

His work reached a broad international audience through the ZDF documentary series “Man of the Ocean.” Today, André Wiersig is in international demand as a voluntary ambassador of the UN Ocean Decade, including appearances at global forums such as the COP28 World Climate Conference in Dubai.

André Wiersig has been married for 25 years, is the father of three children, and lives with his family in Paderborn, Germany.
